‘The Radio Equipment Directive, or RED, establishes a regulatory framework for all radio products sold in Europe. In January 2022, the European Union published a new regulation regarding compliance with RED Article 3.3 – related to cybersecurity in wireless devices. It came into effect in February 2022, and mandates a 30 month transition period for manufacturers, requiring full compliance by August 2024 – now less than two years away.
The requirements set out in RED Article 3.3 relate to personal data confidentiality, the security of software updates, as well as security against malicious intent in devices found on the same network.
